Fornieri points to Frederick Douglass, an escaped slave and abolitionist who embraced the “antislavery voices of the Founding era” and argued for rights based on “our common humanity rather than particular racial consciousness”.

Over 1,000 British academics have demanded time off to fight climate change. Included in the demands is a call for sabbaticals for academics and students to support their efforts to “save all life on our planet”.
