IPA Research Fellow Andrew Bushnell was quoted in The Australian regarding the the newly released IPA report on Indigenous incarceration.
“Despite living on one of the world’s most developed countries, indigenous Australians are incarcerated at a rate of more than 2 ½ times that of the US incarceration rate, which it itself a massive outlier among the rich countries of the world,” Mr. Bushnell writes.
“We are going on 20 years of cultural and racially separate programs and yet the rate of indigenous incarceration continues to rise. It could be argued that without the interventions the result would be even worse, but the evidence is not strong enough to warrant moving away from the legal system on which our liberal democracy is based”.
