In the US, 15% of men between 25 and 54 aren’t working, and the country isn’t even in a recession. That is the alarming takeaway from Edward Glaeser’s 4,400 word must-read essay ‘The War on Work – and How to End It‘ in the latest edition of City Journal.
One of the problems Glaeser points out is that regulations unfairly target young and poor entrepreneurs. Here’s an incredible example of that. Last month, a group of teenagers in Washington D.C. were handcuffed by police for the crime of selling water bottles without a permit.
Australia isn’t immune from these problems. The Fair Work Act prevents young unskilled people from entering the workforce. Watch the IPA’s video from last week that explains why.
Last month was the 30th anniversary of President Reagan’s ‘Tear Down This Wall‘ speech. The Whiskey Politics podcast last week released this fascinating interview with Reagan’s speechwriter who explains why American and German officials wanted the phrase excluded, but Reagan overruled them. Also, this week In the Now! compiled the best jokes about Russia Reagan told during his time in office.
Almost 96 months ago Prince Charles warned we had 96 months left to save the planet. I think it’s time to start panicking! In other climate news, the Bureau of Meteorology has been caught adjusting temperature records in Goulburn – Jennifer Marohasy and Jo Nova have more on this devastating story.

As we’ve previously mentioned in Hey, in May Evergreen State College biologist Bret Weinstein was aggressively accosted by students for questioning a plan for white academics and students to not attend campus.
