In the US, 15% of men between 25 and 54 aren’t working, and the country isn’t even in a recession. That is the alarming takeaway from Edward Glaeser’s 4,400 word must-read essay ‘The War on Work – and How to End It‘ in the latest edition of City Journal.
One of the problems Glaeser points out is that regulations unfairly target young and poor entrepreneurs. Here’s an incredible example of that. Last month, a group of teenagers in Washington D.C. were handcuffed by police for the crime of selling water bottles without a permit.
Australia isn’t immune from these problems. The Fair Work Act prevents young unskilled people from entering the workforce. Watch the IPA’s video from last week that explains why.
