How Javier Milei crushed inflation and restored Argentina’s economy | Adam Creighton

Share this edition:

Argentina was once a byword for economic chaos — triple-digit inflation, soaring poverty, chronic deficits, and relentless money printing.

In Buenos Aries, the Institute of Public Affairs’ Chief Economist, Adam Crieghton, sat down with leading Argentine economist and key member of President Javier Milei’s Advisory Council, Miguel Boggiano, to discuss the country’s remarkable turnaround.

Today, under President Javier Milei, Argentina’s inflation has plunged from almost 300 per cent to as low as 25 per cent, with rates forecast to fall further. Poverty in Argentina has fallen sharply and fiscal surpluses have returned with markets surging.

So, what was the catalyst for such change? In this interview Adam and Miguel discuss:

  • How Javier Milei eliminated the fiscal deficit in weeks.
  • Why inflation collapsed so quickly,
  • The link between money printing and price rises,
  • The real story behind the IMF and United States support,
  • Why previous governments failed,
  • Major tax, labour market and structural reforms ahead,
  • Whether dollarisation is still on the table, and
  • What the rest of the world — including Australia — can learn.

This is a deep dive into one of the most dramatic and successful free-market reform programs in the world today.

If you care about inflation, government spending, economic freedom, and the future of Western economies, this conversation is essential viewing.
